Fakaha Wallhanging
Handpainted using plant dyes in Fakaha, Cote d'Ivoire,
this Senoufo wallhanging (Toile de Korhogo) illustrates
a typical Senoufo village scene.
This style of dramatic handwoven and handspun strip weaving
was originally used in ritual costumes during ceremonies
performed by the Poro, a secret male society.

Handcrafted of obiche wood by a member of the Traditional Handicraft Cooperative Society of the Northwest province of Cameroon, this mask is an example of the traditional Akam or leader mask worn by members of village societies of the Oku tribe during dances, death celebrations, harvesting and planting ceremonies, and other annual festivals.

Handcrafted in Bouafle, Cote d'Ivoirethis style of mask is used by the Gouro tribe during traditional village celebrations.
