An Exploration of Basketweaving Traditions Around the World
Kicking off the Summer Newport Gallery Night series, CADEAUX du MONDE's owner Katie Dyer will be presenting ongoing informal gallery talks from 5:00 until 8:00 in the evening of June 11th exploring the varied basket weaving traditions around the world such as rattan weaving from Indonesia, Buri weaving from the Philippines, raffia weaving from the Democratic Republic of Congo, pine needle weaving from Guatemala, Msasa fiber weaving from zimbabwe and doum palm weaving from Ethiopia. These gallery talks will be illustrated with CADEAUX du MONDE's current collection of fairly traded folk art from Africa, Asia, the Caribbean and Latin America.

Recycling and Folk Art:
A Natural Fit
Wrapping up their Spring Newport Gallery Night series, CADEAUX du MONDE's owners Jane and Katie Dyer will be presenting ongoing informal gallery talks from 5:00 until 8:00 in the evening of May 14th exploring the use of recycled materials to create folk art including "lost wax" cast brass pieces from West Africa and India made from recycled plumbing parts, unique jewelry fashioned from recycled glass beads from West Africa and Asia, felted objects from Guatemala and Nepal, whimsical pieces from East and West Africa handcrafted from recycled aluminum cans, vibrant Haitian oil drum folk art and handmade paper pieces from a variety of recycled fibers. These gallery talks will be illustrated with CADEAUX du MONDE's current collection of fairly traded folk art from Africa, Asia, the Caribbean and Latin America.

An Exploration of Textiles Around the World.
Continuing their Spring Newport Gallery Night tradition, CADEAUX du MONDE's owners Jane and Katie Dyer will be presenting ongoing informal gallery talks from 5:00 until 8:00 in the evening of April 9th exploring such diverse textile traditions as strip weaving in West Africa, Ikat dying and weaving in Indonesia and Guatemala, reverse applique from Thailand, embroidery including kantha from Bangladesh, cross-stitch from Thailand, and mirror embroidery from India and dying techniques such as tie dye and batik. These gallery talks will be illustrated with CADEAUX du MONDE's current collection of fairly traded folk art textiles from Africa, Asia, the Caribbean and Latin America.

"Art Under Foot"
Oriental Rugs Loom in the Distance
CADEAUX du MONDE's owner Katie Dyer will be presenting ongoing informal lectures from 5 until 8 in the evening of March 12th, Newport's monthly Gallery Night. She will illustrate the lectures with CADEAUX du MONDE's current collection of original hand-knotted Oriental rugs which have been fairly traded from Afghanistan and Pakistan. Woven into these mystical pieces are the aspects of the art, history and traditions of Oriental Rug Weaving. An added feature is the opportunity to try rug knotting on a Pakistani loom.
