Images of Africa

Continuing the 10th Anniversary Summer Newport Gallery Night Series, CADEAUX du MONDE will host an opening reception from 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm in the evening of July 8, 2010 for a new exhibit of charcoal and pen & ink drawings "Images of Africa" by two emerging artists from Zimbabwe, Freedom Mandundo and Moses Chirimutah, both current members of The Art Corner Studio, Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe. The exhibit will continue throughout the Summer 2010 Season.

Born in 1989 in Kadoma, Zimbabwe, Freedom Mandundo completed his education at Victoria Falls and joined the cooperative art group, Art Corner Studio. He has spent the past six years working with and being inspired by other artists in the group, namely Larry Norton and Craig Bone. His love for the African bush veld has inspired him to experiment with pencils to capture the beauty of black and white color.

Moses Chirimutah, born in Bulawayo, Zimbabwe, is the youngest of six boys and the son of the late Mark Chirimutah, pastor of the Church of Christ. After completing school in 2002, he decided to take up art full time with the encouragement of Sanele Dhlomo, an artist and curator at the Art Corner Studio, Victoria Falls. Striving to achieve photo realism in his work depicting lanscapes, wildlife and local people, his preferred mediums are pencils and colored pencils.

October 1, 2009

Dear Friends of CADEAUX du MONDE:

CADEAUX du MONDE would like to invited all of our family, friends, business associates and customers to consider a donation to our 2009 UNICEF Fundraising Campaign--our 23rd year of coordinating a UNICEF benefit.

UNICEF is hard at work in over 150 countries around the world with a single mission: to do whatever it takes to save the lives of children. UNICEF is on the ground with permanent staff in every one of these countries, providing lifesaving health care clean water, improved nutrition, education and relief in times of emergency.

UNICEF's innovative, low-cost but extremely effective solutions to the problems facing children have allowed UNICEF to save more children's lives than any other humanitarian organization.

Several local businesses have once again generously donated their space and placed the familiar bright orange countertop collection boxes next to their cash registers for the entire month of October--National UNICEF month. The boxes can be found at Hydrangea House Inn, Harbor Fine Art, Arnold Art, The Newport Potters Guild, Miniature Occasions & Dolls, Spring Bull Gallery, Firehouse Theatre, Newport Hardware, DeBlois Gallery and CADEAUX du MONDE.

To donate to this year's fundraising campaign or to participate by placing a countertop collection box in your business, contact CADEAUX du MONDE at (401)848-0550 or drop by the GAllery at 26 Mary Street in Newport, RI between 10 and 6 daily.

Thanks for all your years of supporting this worthy cause.
